Book 13/100 | Enna Burning

I made a goal to read 100 books in 2013 and I'm reviewing each one I read on the blog. A hundred is a lot so I am always looking for book suggestions. Feel free to comment with your very favorite books and I'll be sure to add them to my list.

It's always a tad humiliating for me to spend time in the Young Adult section of the library. Nothing screams, "I am not looking for depth, I am looking for entertainment" like the walk of shame through the archway into the room where the 13-year-old girls chat on MSN messenger on their purple lap-tops and Robert Patinson glares at me seductively stalks me from the posters on the Vampire wall.

Anyway, Enna Burning by Shannon Hale is the sequel to The Goose Girl and it was good for being YA fantasy. Something about that genre, guys.

Completely unrelated, but nevertheless beautiful photo of the beach in NC. That is Steven down there with Gage and a cousin or two.

If you read The Goose Girl, then Enna Burning is a good follow-up and I felt like I didn't need to continue with the series since all the loose ends seem to get tied up with this one (even though apparently the series goes on for a while).
I WANT to like fantasy and I WANT to like Young Adult Lit... but I just can't seem to find anything that is both well-written and captivating. I miss Harry Potter.
If you've read a good fantasy and/or Young Adult book recently, would you let me know about it? I can't delve into anything too deep at the moment, so keep that in mind.

  1. Book recommendations! My favorite thing forever. Ok where to start... admittedly it's been a while since I've delved into YA but my favorite YA novel is "Welcome to the Ark," by Stephanie Tolan. It's fantasy. And so wonderful!

Thanks for stopping by my blog as well. Giving is hard. :(

    1. Hey Maria! Of course, I really loved reading your thoughts!

I will definitely checkout "Welcome to the Ark" - thanks for the recommendation!

  2. I miss Harry Potter too. So badly! I read a cute book called Wildwood Dancing. You might try that. I can't remember how the writing was though. Good luck!

  3. If you want to do YA, put the "Homelanders" series at the top of your list! Andrew Klavan is a very good author. It starts with "The Last Thing I Remember". They are 4 book series, pretty quick reads though. They are about a young man is loses his memory and his faith in himself and god and everything he knows is challenged. It has suspense, adventure, action, a bit of romance, and it's very quick moving. I really think you'll enjoy them a lot! I've been really excited to share them with you and see what you think! They are my favorites right now! Also "Adventurers Wanted" series is pretty good as well.
    Good Luck! Happy Reading!

    1. Hey Tanya! I think you've recommended this series to me before but I forgot to jot it down. I will definitely go find these books this time around! Thanks!!!

  4. There are definitely times all I want to do is read young adult books. I just pretend I'm checking them out for my sister. ;-)
